Student Voters

Students can vote in Maine just like anyone else!

Here are the requirements to vote:

  • You must be a US citizen

  • You must be 18 years or older on or before Election Day

  • You must be an established resident in the Maine town where you intend to register and vote

If you live in dorms or off-campus in the town you go to school in, you can register as a resident of that town. Your student ID can be used as proof of residency when you register to vote.

I Came to School in Maine from Another State

You can vote absentee if you’re back at your parents on election day, away for the semester, or going to school virtually due to Covid-19. You can even register with your student ID if you attend a school (private or public) in Maine.

I Live in Maine, But Go to School in Another State

If you lived in Maine prior to attending school in another state, you can register to vote or keep your voter registration in Maine. The only way you lose this is if you register in another state.
